Roop Singh Visit
The RE department is very interested in sharing real life events with our students and we pride ourselves on bringing in visitors who will inspire others. Roop Singh is no exception as he has had a massive impact on many students throughout the years. He started telling stories about the Sikh Gurus in local schools so that non Sikh children would be able to understand what it means to be a Sikh. His simple style and clear explanations are popular with young people and adults alike. Today Roop Singh travels around the world entertaining and educating his audiences with his special brand of storytelling.
Roop Singh visited Cockburn’s RE department to support o Year 8 students with their unit on ‘the importance of the Gurdwara in the life of a Sikh and Sikh worship’ topic. The day involved a two part presentation followed by turban tying and a question and answer session. In the afternoon some student also participated in a student led workshop building on the learning from the morning session.
We would like to say a big thank you to Roop Singh for sharing his life and faith as a Sikh. The RE Department would also like to say thank you and well done to those students who participated in the experience and for being great ambassadors for the school. We look forward to having Roop Singh in again.
