In July 2020, the government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure. £650 million of this funding was directed to schools to mitigate the effects of the unique disruption caused by coronavirus. The grant will only be available for the 2020-2021 academic year. Each school will receive £80 per student. Cockburn School will receive approximately £102,000.
This funding has been used in a variety of different ways including:
- Extending the school day for Year 11 students to support them to catch up.
- Train staff in covid safe teaching practices including remote learning.
- Provide small group tuition, including support with reading where required.
- Strengthen our ability to support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Full details of how this funding will be spent can be found in our ‘COVID-19 Catch Up Funding Plan’ shown below.
